Graham Scholarship

Brother John H. Graham (#314), a 1989 graduate of Tennessee Technological University and a January 23, 1987 initiate of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, was active both in the fraternity and the TTU Rugby Football Club. John was killed in an ATV accident on July 17, 1994. This scholarship is designed to recognize a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity with a particular interest in athletics and rugby football at TTU.

John began playing rugby at TTU, learning the position of hooker, and quickly became a devoted club member and fierce competitor. Many of his teammates on the rugby team were Kappa Sigma’s and that led him to join the brotherhood. Initiated with a pledge class of 8, John was very active in the fraternity and served as Guard his senior year.

After graduation, John worked under the direction of the International Agricultural Exchange Association which took him to Montana and then Australia. He returned home to Newport, Tennessee in 1990 and began splitting his time working in the family farming business and as a forestry technician with the Great Smoky Mountain National Park.

John demonstrated that a student can love and be devoted to both his fraternal bond and athletics. His devotion to the order and his sport was the envy of his brothers and teammates.
